Too often I dread going to the theatre, after way too many years of obligatory attendance. "I'm tired, it's too long, I have TV I'd rather watch, can't I just be on my phone..." Your substack inspires me to suck it up and go - even if it's bad, I can talk to you about it. (Side note - taking Sam to The Outsiders in Feb, bc she is every single bit of a 13yo theatre kid who wants to see cute boys on stage!) xoxo

This is such high praise—thank you!!! And I totally get what you mean: if the performing arts were people, theatre would be my great love affair, but TV would be my best friend. Sometimes, you’re not in the mood for something passsionate and all-consuming; you just want to put on soft clothes and talk about Mr, Big.

Brilliant hot takes. Ever insightful, always hilarious, and frankly…spot on. Looking forward to a more impressive 2026 season!

This comment is allowing me to end a hard day with a huge smile. Thank you! Also, how cool that we got to see a couple of these together?!

I absolutely agree wholeheartedly with your number one pick. This show is one of the most exciting shows I've seen in years and even though I know a lot of people went to glorify in the nudity, it made perfect sense. Bonus points for including David Greenspan, one of my all-time favorite performers. By the way, I also saw that 2001 version of Rocky Horror.

I'm so glad you mentioned David Greenspan because, in the interest of comparative brevity, I deleted a passage about how wonderful he was in my discussion of Prince F*ggot. From the prologue (I'm still laughing at his line about grooming) and the press rep. character (we knew EXACTLY who she was from the moment he entered) to the heartrending monologue about fetish, he was perfection.
